What are the major equipment of a substation?

Apart from the above components, we need other auxiliaries in order to monitor, control and operate a sub-station. They are other substation components such as the control and relay panel, battery set along with battery charger, DG Set, fire fighting system, and proper illumination.

The linked video discusses control and relay panels and their functions.

In this section, we will discuss 1 Definition of Cable 2 Uses of Cable 3 Characteristics of Cable 4 Types of Cable 5 Laying of Cables
A substation battery ensures all the essential electrical systems in a substation continue to operate in the event of a power outage. An absence of an electrical supply could result in damage to equipment and personnel. In this section, the importance of battery along with operation and maintenance has been discussed.
In some fatal cases like insulation breakdown in VCB insulator posts, short circuits of tripping/closing coils, etc., the rectification usually requires hours or even days depending upon the availability. Power interruption for lengthy periods is not a very desirable situation whatever the condition inside the substation. In such cases, the operators must be intuitive enough to think out of the box to resume power supply via a temporary solution i.e. Diesel Generator.

Grid substations are one of the integral units of transmission and distribution of electrical energy. There are different ratings of grid substations and the layout of the grid substation varies with the specific rating. The major part of any grid substations is (a) the Control room, (b) the switch yard, and (c) the store. Proper lighting and illumination condition are required for the entire grid substation and its surrounding area.

In this video, you are going to learn about electrical TOOLS & PLANTS FOR GRID SUB-STATION. Like any other repair or improvement project around the GRID, electrical work requires tools. For most electrical projects, you’ll use mostly basic hand tools you already own, such as a hammer, tape measure, digital multimeter, level, and screwdrivers. There are also some specialty electrical tools that come in handy from time to time, and these are readily available at most GRID central stores
